Brian & Gabi Kinney

  • It's been a while since we last posted and we are trying to get back into the swing of things after a somewhat stressful move. We are in a temporary holding pattern until our next big move, but we get to spend a bit of time with family and good friends while we prepare for our adventure. πŸοΈπŸš™ It has been cold here and that puts us in the baking mood. A little while ago we were lucky enough to spend the day baking old world breads with @nancy.d.yoder of the lovely McBurney Manor. Follow the link in our bio to read all about Nancy and her delicious breads. πŸžπŸ‘©β€πŸ³
  • Today marks 5 years since we got hitched in Vegas. This is one of my favorite photos from that weekend because it always felt like a metaphor for our life together - the plane crash behind us, life's chaos swirling all around us - but we lock eyes on one another and our focus remains there. The first few years of our relationship leading up to this day were some of the most difficult of my life with loss, grief and scary medical issues weighing me down. Brian held me upright and still does to this day. We've been through a lot and have been tested, but we are resilient as individuals and as a unit. We are about to embark on a whole new adventure, into an unfamiliar life, another one of our hair-brained schemes and I can't wait. I know as long as we are at one another's side, we can survive anything. Nothing can break that focus β€οΈβ€οΈπŸ€΅πŸ‘°

  • Too much πŸ¦ƒ
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  • Enjoying our state capital today while learning how to make soy candles with the talented @moonrisecandle in the beautiful @the_millworks building.
  • We did our civic duty and now we are enjoying our traditional celebratory beer! Hope you are all out voting today! Lily Beans loves taking part in American Democracy... as any good dog should. 😊🐢❀️❀️
  • Took an impromptu trip down to DC yesterday to listen to a talk from @reneredzepinoma and @david_zilber on their latest The Noma Guide to Fermentation and all the amazing things you can do with food. Both chefs were equally brilliant and charming and we came away feeling inspired to push more boundaries with our own experiments. My favorite part of the evening may or may not have been getting to eat a chocolate chip cookie drizzled with fermented shoyu caramel sauce created by @nomaferments πŸͺ🀭

There is something about baking bread in a wood-fired oven that just seems right. It could be the history of it all, the time and care that it takes to build and tend a fire all day, or perhaps it’s just the delicious flavor of wood-fired loaves. …

If you’re in the thick of an Indian Summer like us, you definitely need to know how to make tepache de pina, or pineapple tepache. Instead of lamenting the lingering heat, we’re taking full advantage and making summery pickles and ferments using pineapples, like the Pineapple-Pickled Jicama …

In small kitchens, space is at a premium, and limited space means that we have to be very selective about what countertop appliances & tools we possess. We’ve been slowly downsizing our appliances, getting rid of redundancies and replacing tools with combination gadgets to make the best …

We’ve discovered what is likely Gabi’s new favorite topping for chicken, fish, and pretty much all of the tacos. This bright pickled concoction is super easy to make and is like summer in a jar. We love fall, it’s harvest season after all. Our favorite dirt fruits …

Our mission is to celebrate the journey of life, to learn as much as we can, to share as much as we can and, hopefully, tell great stories as we go. At the end of the day, we want to meet good people, eat good food, drink good drink, make love, and have fun.
